Ford School professor Katherine Michelmore has been named as one of 23 new research associates by the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). NBER is is a private, nonpartisan organization that facilitates cutting-edge investigation and analysis of major economic issues.
Michelmore is an associate professor of public policy who researches the social safety net, education policy, labor economics and economic demography. She is an expert on the Earned Income Tax Credit and its direct impacts. She was specifically assigned to NBER's Program on Children, which "uses economic tools to study the determinants of children’s well-being. It considers the role of education, public and private health insurance, and transfer programs, as well as the long-run economic and social consequences of early-life circumstances."
"The directors of the NBER’s 20 research programs recommend appointments after consulting with steering committees made up of leading scholars," NBER wrote in its press release. "Research associate appointments must be approved by the NBER Board of Directors. The newly appointed researchers serve on the faculties of 42 different colleges and universities. They received their graduate training at 29 different institutions."
